It seemed a fitting read for Memorial Day week.

There are a number of lessons we can learn from the killing of Osama bin Laden. More importantly, Bergen's book gives us pause to thank the men and women of our incomparable armed services for what they do to protect and defend our freedoms on a daily basis.

I dedicate this blog to them--our truest heroes. We salute you with our prayers and thanks.

The Secular Take-over of America

Last week I submitted a 300-page manuscript for my doctoral thesis. Its working title for future book publication is The River, and it details the five worldviews about God, why four of them are false, and how they all came from a common source.

One of the five philosophies that is battling for global supremacy is secularism. I analyzed atheism/secularism/humanism in depth for the thesis--and my studies were very enlightening. First of all, I didn't realize there were Asian and Western versions of atheism. More on that at a later date.

The western form of secularism is in mortal combat with the Judeo-Christian worldview in the United States. This battle has been escalating for about fifty years.

However, the principalities of evil behind the lie of secularism went for the "jugular" last week when President Obama became the first president in history to endorse homosexual marriage.

This was a desperate attempt to complete the secular takeover of America. Here's why.

Fiscal Insanity and the National Day of Prayer

I'm in Washington, D.C. for the National Day of Prayer. There are many important gatherings this week both here and all around the nation.

The main prayer event will be a large gathering in the Cannon House Office building from 9-12noon on Thursday. Many leaders of government will be there. That same evening a cross-section of the "Church of the City" will gather on the west steps of the Capitol. The crowd will represent a broad rainbow expression of the Body Christ from many diverse ethnic backgrounds.

I'm been coming to America's National Day of Prayer since it began in 1988. This year our youngest son, Jason, is along with me for a graduation trip. Shirley and I just completed twenty-five years of home schooling. What does America's future hold for Jason and coming generations?

I'm fearful that woefully inept financial policies that our nation is currently engaged in--and their devastating consequences--will overwhelm our son's generation (and ours) if we don't get our house in order.

Is Tiger Woods a Picture of the USA?

Because of my sports background and competitive nature, I enjoy watching athletes that are suberb at their game. Their excellence is usually a combination of God-given skill (destiny) and what they do to maximize it (discipline).

When I first saw Tiger Woods play golf, I thought of that incredible combination: God-given talent and amazing focus. For a decade, Tiger reigned as the number one professional golfer in the world, winning over seventy tournaments and dominating the "majors" (the biggest tournaments which include the Masters, The British Open, the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship).

During his decade of dominance, Tiger won 14 majors--second only to Jack Nicklaus winning 18 during his illustrious career. Most of us thought Tiger would one day eclipse the "Golden Bear."

But suddenly in 2009, Tiger fell from grace and prominence. Now he's trying desperately to get back on his feet.

I recently read an article in my local newspaper (Kitsap SUN) that described the evidence for the Genesis Flood that an engineer had discovered in rock formations in Arizona. It was a great article and even mentioned Noah's Ark as a possible historical reality.

Two days later, a letter to the editor was posted that made fun of the article--even calling it "laughable" from a scientific standpoint. Why the shrill response?

Well, I think it's time to give a true meaning to the term "political correctness." Political correctness is nothing less than secular intolerance. I especially want you to pray for nine very important human beings as a result of your understanding.

I'm sure many of you remember the name of "Dred Scott" from the history books--but you may not recall the magnitude, the infamous nature of the name in American history.

The Dred Scott Decision was handed down by the United States Supreme Court on March 6, 1857 by a 7-2 vote stating that people of African descent brought into the United States and held as slaves (or their descendants, whether or not they were slaves) were not protected by the Constitution and were not U.S. citizens.

The decision was tragic--and flat-out wrong. It led to the Civil War and the death of 600,000 precious lives--all because nine US Supreme Court justices didn't have the clarity to "judge righteously."

This week we are faced with another Dred Scott moment. The US Supreme Court is hearing three days of arguments over Obamacare. African-American rights aren't at stake here--but the rights and future of all of our citizens.

We don't need another Dred Scott. We need nine individuals to do the right thing.

Asking the Government to Subsidize Our Sins

We live in a time of dense moral fog. I spoke to a group of pastors yesterday about the need to preserve marriage in the state of Washington. Our legislature recently crammed down the throat of the WA electorate a bill that legalizes homosexual marriage.

We, the people, will challenge it in a fall referendum.

Re-define marriage? That's like re-defining "gravity." Gravity is what it is. No word games can change its reality. Consequently, no re-definition can alter the fact that only a man and a woman can "join together" in marriage. It's physically impossible to do otherwise. Marriage was designed by God to discourage immorality and provide nurture and care for children conceived via the union.

If you'd told me thirty years ago that the definition of marriage would be up for grabs in my lifetime, I would have said that you were crazy.

But that's what we are--twisted, crazy, upside down. Our back-slidden Judeo-Christian culture has perilously lost its moorings--even over something as basic as marriage.

That's not all. Now we have another crazy idea: we want Uncle Sam to pay for our sexual sin.

Let me introduce you to Sandra Fluke.

Dobbs stunned Fox's "humble correspondent" by stating on the "O'Reilly Factor" that the main reason for expensive gas in the U.S. is excess "supply" being sold to China and India. That made O'Reilly upset and he spent much of the week blaming the "greedy" oil companies for our woes.

Remember this is Fox News--not the mainstream media. Usually liberals blame the oil companies. However, oil prices are an area where Bill O'Reilly leans left--he really believes the oil executives are "hosing the folks." He's believed it for years. He may be partly right.

But I don't think it's the best answer.

So why are gas prices are so high, and what can we do about it?

Is God Using the Catholic Church to Awaken America?

One of the biggest stories in the US this past week has been the uproar over the Obamacare provisions being handed down by the Department of Health and Human Services. The new mandates force religiously-affiliated organizations to dispense contraceptives against their consciences in violation of long-held religious freedom.

All week national Christian leaders decried the action. On Friday, radio commentator Sean Hannity held a "Crisis Forum" on the issue. The nation's most watched cable network trumpeted the danger against religious liberty almost every hour. And today, I attended a private gathering of Washington State leaders to hear a major Republican presidential candidate speak to the issue.

Do you know what these national leaders, Sean Hannity, the cable news network and presidential candidate all have in common?

They are Catholics.
